We performed brain MRI scans in patients with schizophrenia and adolescents to investigate globus pallidus (GP) subregions in the schizophrenia-spectrum continuum. We identified volumetric enlargement of the GP externus common to schizophrenia and adolescent psychotic experiences, a risk factor for schizophrenia onset, along with distinct subregion-specific functional connectivity.
