Defective ventral neurogenesis due to midfetal Chd8 mutation drives autistic-like behavior in mice

Jun 01, 2026

Using inducible mouse models, we identified the midfetal period as a critical window in which Chd8 mutation drives ASD-like behaviors. Chd8 haploinsufficiency accelerates ventral progenitor differentiation, leading to abnormal inhibitory neuron and oligodendrocyte development. Genetic restoration of Chd8 in ventral progenitors ameliorates neurodevelopmental and behavioral abnormalities.
