Asymmetric projection of introspection reveals a behavioural and neural mechanism for interindividual social coordination

An international research group led by Kentaro Miyamoto (RIKEN Center for Brain Science) has psychologically identified “social metacognition” as the ability to project introspective evaluation of one’s own mental model to estimate the mental states of other people. They also discovered that neuronal circuits at anterior lateral prefrontal area 47 are critical for social metacognition.
