Astrocytes, which support brain function, are thought to interact with neurons and influence whole-brain activity and behavior. In this study, we will incorporate astrocyte activity into a digital whole-brain model that has traditionally focused primarily on neurons. We will then combine the model with functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) in mice to predict and experimentally validate changes in whole-brain activity induced by astrocyte manipulation. Through this approach, we aim to elucidate the mechanisms by which astrocytes influence brain states and function.
