The aim of this study is to test if the “outcome representation” in the entorhinal cortex—which we discovered through our research over the past 15 years—constitutes a neural circuit governing cognitive flexibility, the ability to adapt to new situations. Our study is expected to build a basis for research on mental disorders, including schizophrenia, and to contribute to the identification of brain regions responsible for decision-making flexibility.
