Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common cause of dementia and occurs with age. Knowing 'where, which cells and how they change', the alterations in glial cell-to-cell and neuro-glial cell interactions within distinct microenvironments, is important for understanding the pathogenesis of AD. We obtain gene expression information from each cell and map it onto brain slices to create a digital atlas of gene expression using autopsy-derived brain tissue from young, healthy elderly and AD patients. This will be used for research on AD from many angles to elucidate the pathomechanisms of the disease.
