We discovered a repetitive pattern of microcircuits composed of a small number of neurons in the output layer of the mouse cerebral cortex. A similar circuit unit has been identified in the human cerebral cortex. Through detailed analysis of this structure, we aim to understand normal cortical function and develop applications for detecting circuit dysfunction.
