This study is aimed at identifying the pathways from different eye movement-related cerebral areas to the superior colliculus (SC) in monkeys, which is the central hub for voluntary saccades. Single spikes are recorded from various cerebral saccade-related areas during different kinds of saccades trained in monkeys, and then, are examined as to whether they are electrically activated from the SC. By this, we will show that voluntary and reflexive saccades are controlled differently from the cerebral areas to the SC.
