In recent years, it has been proposed that differences in the mechanism by which predictions are compared with sensory input can lead to a variety of mental disorders. In this project, we will introduce the concept of perceptual inference bias, and identify and compare the neural circuits in humans and macaque monkeys that compare predictions with sensory inputs. Through these studies, we hope to advance our understanding of the pathophysiology of mental disorders.
