Objectives

Large-scale national brain projects have been launched simultaneously in Japan, the U.S., and Europe, which will dramatically change the way how the brain is studied. The goal of these projects is to fully understand the overall structure and mechanisms of the brain.

The Japanese project is called Brain Mapping by Integrated Neurotechnologies for Disease Studies (Brain/MINDS), and specifically aims to elucidate the neural circuits underlying higher brain functions using unique experimental models. This challenging project is being promoted in cooperation with a variety of research institutes throughout Japan.
